Is responsive web design still a thing?

Yes. Google's guide to mobile-first indexing says Google "uses the mobile version of a site's content, crawled with the smartphone agent, for indexing and ranking." On a responsive page, that mobile version is the same page your desktop visitors see. The same guide calls a mobile version of your pages "very strongly recommended."

Why is responsive web design good for SEO?

Google backs it in its own documentation. Its mobile-first indexing guide in Search Central says Google "recommends Responsive Web Design because it's the easiest design pattern to implement and maintain." A responsive page serves the same HTML on the same URL to every device. Search engines get one URL per page, with the same content and metadata on phones and desktops.

What is mobile-first responsive design?

Mobile-first responsive design starts with the layout for the smallest screen and adds columns and space as screen sizes grow. It makes a team decide early what a visitor on a phone needs to see. Our developers build each page from the approved mobile and desktop designs.

How do you test a responsive website?

We test five common resolutions per device type in four browsers, and on projects and retainers each page goes through three QA passes. What CMS supports fully responsive site design?

Webflow is one CMS that does, and it's the one we build on. Webflow's Breakpoints overview lists a desktop base breakpoint, tablet at 991px and below, mobile landscape at 767px and below, and mobile portrait at 479px and below. Three larger breakpoints, 1280px, 1440px, and 1920px, can be added. We build on Webflow because your marketing team can then add and edit pages without a developer.

What is responsive web design?

Responsive web design is an approach where one set of pages adapts its layout to the screen it opens on, from a wide monitor to a phone. Columns stack, images resize, and menus fold into a smaller form. The content and the URL stay the same. On a responsive B2B site, the buyer on a phone reads the same offer as a colleague at a desk.
